Crocodoc, whose founding team comprises all MIT grads, was one of our first portfolio companies. After meeting through campus networks, Krishna found Crocodoc’s bold vision and highly complementary team intriguing. “I remember swinging by their office in Boston and signing the documents the day before they took off for YCombinator,” Krishna reflects. “They were such a unit.” Crocodoc eventually became Romulus’ first exit when it sold to Box in 2013.
Romulus value in action: Audacious. Crocodoc wanted to disrupt the way Adobe dominated the average user’s online interaction with documents; although Adobe still stands, Crocodoc was successfully acquired by Box, which then IPOed and has become an enterprise storage and information management leader.
